Toronto, March 20, 2007 - The Ontario Home Builders' Association submission to the government's pre-budget consultation focused on the continuing need for significant infrastructure investments to support the province's growth plan strategy.

"OHBA has long advocated for infrastructure investment. The provincial budget in 2006 was a great start in terms of transportation investments and the 2007 budget provides an ideal opportunity for the government to build on last year's success," explained OHBA President Brian Johnston.

The province expects 3.7 million new residents in the Greater Golden Horseshoe over the next 30 years. Expanding infrastructure systems and transportation capacity will be a key investment to fulfill the vision articulated in the province's Places to Grow plan.

"Premier McGuinty has a tremendous opportunity to continue to invest in transportation infrastructure. It is time to get Ontario moving again," commented Johnston.

"The province can't rest on its laurels following last year's budget, we must continue to invest in infrastructure each and every year," Johnston added.

The residential construction industry in Ontario contributes more than $33 billion dollars to the provincial economy and employs over 313,000 people.

OHBA is the voice of the residential construction industry in Ontario representing 4,000 member companies organized in a network of 31 local associations across the province.

OHBA President Brian Johnston will be available to comment on the provincial budget after the budget is tabled on March 22. To arrange an interview please contact Joe Vaccaro at (416-433-2474).
